Grapple shopping

Hello all,
Just bought my first tractor (LX2610SU), and loving it! Looking for a grapple now but there seems to be so many out to there to choose from.
Looking for suggestions on the best brand/ style. I’m fine with 48 or 54” to keep weight down.
Any ideas?

WR Long bolt on grapple... bolts to your current bucket, 143 pounds. Works great. Helps to have a tooth bar with the grapple.

I have had the LandPride 60” since 2021.
It is a shade lighter than the 60” fel bucket.
It is what is normally on the loader, unless I am doing backhoe work.

I own a 54” unit that I purchased from MTL implements. My primary use is for cleaning hay/manure from my cattle’s feed area, but I have also used it for moving logs and brush around the farm. It’s a well built unit that works well. MTL was great to do business with, the unit was in stock and delivered in just about a week from the order date.

I have an HLA, and I like it.

I would probably get a "dual lid" design though.

However, I am also impressed with the build quality of my Homestead Pinnacle Box Blade, so if their grapples are anything like their BB's I would not hesitate to get one.

On my B (I think similar to LX?), I have a LP 0660. Its a nice size and weight for that machine IMO.

I think your primary plan of use should determine the style. I think the clam shell style is maybe more versatile since you can use to rake the ground more effectively than a long bottom style.

I also have a long bottom style for my MX and it certainly supports/holds odd and large shapes much better, but it does not do very well at o rake the ground. There is a trade off for sure.

I’d give the other brands mentioned above a look if I were buying again. Beyond the steel spec and weight, I think zerk location, kickstands(especially for a clamshell style), and hose routing/protection pretty important. (Don’t forget to think about a brush guard / grill guard insert for the machine itself).

If I could only have one extra implement for the loader, it’d be forks over a grapple though.

I chose forks over grapple 5 years ago. Overall a better decision.
They weigh less, means they can carry more
They are forks , so can carry skids of 'stuff'
They can carry a LOT of 'brush', once you get the hang of it.
They don't require $$$$ hydraulic upgrade

In the end, 'to each their own' , but base your decision on what you NEED 'them' to do.
If 99.44% of use IS brush related, grapples are probably best but if you have several tasks to do, forks are better.

Either way READ the specs and get the lightest weight implement for YOUR tasks.

I just bought the Catawba 55 and love it. Here's a video about it. Perfect for a compact tractor and weights about the same as the bucket.

I have the MTL 60". Been everything I need. It's dual lid. I helped my neighbor set about 30 RR ties on his drive way and he was amazed how easy it way and how fast it went. They were delivered to his place in a bundle and banded. It was a 90 deg day! He did very little hard work, and I did none!!

I would look at the Catawba grapple. I have their land plane and am very impressed with the build quality.
