G1800 runs good for about a 1/4 acre of grass cutting, then suddenly the motor just slows down and sputters a bit. Sometimes it shuts off, sometimes it recovers and then I keep mowing. If it shuts off it will restart, but shakes around a lot until it gets back to full rpm. I have a fuel filter, but have not replaced it yet.

Drain your tank while you are at in and have a decent look at what's in the bottom of it.

Replace BOTH fuel filters. One is on the engine; the other is at the bottom left side of the fuel tank-remove the L.R. wheel to get to it easier. When replacing the one near the tank, you'll lose a bunch of fuel unless you pinch off the fuel line; and if you do pinch it off, they're old...and they're known to crack/break...so I suggest having a spare piece of 1/4" fuel line close by, as well as a drain pan.
