Hello,

What would be the best flail mower for a LX2610? Thinking a Woodmaxx FM-62.

Thank you
Travis
Your tractor is at the bottom end of the suggested PTO hp for that model, so if cutting very thick and tall stuff your tractor might struggle. The flail I run behind the MX6000 only has a 62" cutting width compared to 59" for the FM-62, and with 52hp at the PTO I've cut some stuff that is hard going, even for the MX.

It'll be interesting to hear if any members are running that sized flail behind their 20hp PTO tractors, and if so, what they're cutting.

N.Y,
I am also looking for one for around 19 pto hp and my dealer recommended the DelMarino Funny Top 158 that is a light duty 62 inch version manual shift rated for lower horsepower machines. Has something to do with the gearbox efficiency and drum diameter. I really want an offset flail but 48 inches seems to be the max width for anything under $8k I am finding.

How much offset are you looking for?

I have a 53" medium duty BETSTCO with hammers. I don't have any issue with power unless I'm cutting really high/wet stuff. I just need to slow down a bit when doing so.

You can generally run a larger flail (specially with Y blades) if you're cutting reasonable height grass. I would think a 60" light duty would be fine.

4 1/2 to 5 feet. DelMarino makes a 60 inch but it's $7800.00 plus tax. The cheaper Chinese ones have higher HP requirements because of cheap gear boxes and cutting geometry but I may try a 57 inch titan because it's only for about an acre around my pond and I can overlap cuts.

I've had a Del Morino Centurion Super 158 for 2-1/2 years and it definitely allows to me to cut some banks that would otherwise be impossible to get to. It's also great around trees and along fence lines and such. With only 62" cutting width it's on the small side to tuck in behind the tractor and run around a large field, even though I did just that in the photos below.

These days I use a folding rotary cutter to get the large areas done, and the flail or 7ft rotary cutter for smaller jobs where being nimble is important. I've only had the folding cutter for one season but I'm very impressed with that implement. It's so much faster and it does a great job at my place and my friend's place.

That's the one my dealer recommended as being the best match also.
"Despite the fact that the name of the series is Funny Top, which is like the most Chinesium sounding thing I've ever heard, it's an Italian company". 😂

I have a lot of respect for Neal Messick based on his videos and one phone conversation, but I don't agree with every point that he makes in the video. I have a flail, a rotary cutter and a folding rotary cutter, and the flail with hammer blades and enough PTO hp will demolish thick, woody brush with relative ease. Nothing that home owners typically use will cut the piece of wood that he picked up and managed to jam between the drum and shield. For the record, I have a lot of hours running a flail and only once jammed up the drum and that was cutting some thick, woody tall stuff that wrapped around the drum near the bearing, almost like wire. I've run over all manner of large stuff like logs and tree stumps, and other than the front bar that the guards swing on getting bent (now modified to prevent that), everything has exited the flail.

No one cutting system is perfect, but I would part with the Land Pride RCR1884 before the Del Morino flail or Land Pride RC3712 folding cutter. In fact, I didn't use the RCR1884 this past summer.
