This weekend I was hauling hay with my M7040FC. As I was driving across a field, the radio started going in and out, meaning off and on. Thought it was my Bluetooth and I was getting a call or text. Got to the field and noticed my AC wasn't working (fan not blowing). Turned the fan off, then my radio came on, turned the fan back on and the radio went off. Decided to shut the tractor off and restart to see if that reset anything, but then wouldn't start. The last 2 times I have started the tractor, the battery light was on at low RPM's, rev it up a little and it went off. Put my booster box on it, it started up, but all the accessories would not work simultaneously. I am thinking my alternator is going bad and not producing enough current to run everything. Before I start checking every wire, wanted to know if anyone has an opinion or think I have a bad alternator.

Don't just throw parts at it. TEST.

First thing when you suspect an alternator is to test your voltage at the battery with the engine OFF and again with the engine RUNNING.

You should see about 12.5 off and 13.8 running.

Your symptoms COULD be a bad alternator, but it could also be other things.

Test. Don't pray and spray. Parts are expensive.
