Wanted to share this issue I had at work, again on a BX2680 tractor. Machine in question developed a vibration or "Shudder" when it was operated in 4wd.
I spent about 3 days tearing apart the driveline, dropping HST (hydrostatic Transmission) oil/filter/screener, dropping front axle fluid, all in the search for metal flakes or chunks. Nada. There was slight evidence of debris but nothing particularly worrisome.
I am the mechanic for a city municipality, and these tractors are in 4wd almost all winter long, and operate on city sidewalks. Because of this, our U-Joints tend to degrade faster than most BX series that are used residentially.
With that being said, there was a lot of speculation over the viability of the "slop" in the driveline (u-joints) being the culprit, I dont think that slop helps, but I dont think its what causes the vibration.
Today I noticed that the "front axle pivot bolt" was loose. Will reply to this post if that was the issue.
