I just picked up a brand new B6100HST 4x4 (2100hrs). It needed some love but with a new battery, glow plugs, oil change, and new seals on the 3 point piston she is running great. It has 62" belly mower running off the mid PTO. I think it needs a new pilot bushing but, ill only use the PTO a few times before the fall when split the tractor and just do a full clutch job while I'm in there. Is there anything I should know about these? Never owned a tractor before and was looking for a while and think I got a decent deal, $2200, so just hoping for some insight on things to look out for. I am getting some blow by from the vent tube, nothing crazy but, it is there.

Clean the radiator externally very well. I think there is a screen in front of the radiator and if so clean it off.

You just don’t want to overheat these engines or you will get a cracked head.

Figure out what type of temperature warning system is on the tractor and make sure it is working properly.

Do you know if it is thermo-siphon cooling or does it have a water pump?

Great looking tractor.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited. Looking forward towards wrenching on this beast. I haven't been able to find a water pump so I am guessing the siphon type. Next thing on the list is adding a couple gauges for oil pressure and coolant temp. I have an oil pressure test kit and it is getting plenty of pressure but my switch is stuck closed (or open?) so the light is always on. Coolant seems to be flowing and the radiator is clean so, I'm assuming temps are OK but, that's why I want a temp gauge. I have only been running it around the yard with no load on it and it is still pretty cold up here around Buffalo so, temps haven't been a big concern... Yet... The real test comes in a month or so when it goes down to camp and starts mowing some acreage.

FYI, your tractor should have a steam whistle to alert operator of high water temps. Should be located on side of frame, right hand side, toward front.

The steam whistle is connected to the tube out of the radiator neck in case you can’t locate it, just follow the hose. I believe they are still available from dealer.

And they are loud enough to be heard but the engine is HOT.

Just another reason why I want to put a temp gauge on it. Good to know there is something to let me know that things are too hot in the mean time though. Thanks!

Part number 20 in the diagram.

From what Messicks says both the original part number and the replacement are discontinued. I have seen them referred to as both steam whistle and horn.

I was looking at Messick's for new o-rings and back-up seal for my 3 point piston but the shipping for stuff that cheap wasn't worth it so i just got them through the local Kubota dealer. That being said, for anything I need that is of substantial cost, I'll be going to Messick's.
