Best method to install new dust cover and metal ring on L2501

The front right steering tie rod dust cover near the tire is cracked. I have everthing removed and cleaned. What is the trick to getting the new dust cover and metal retaining ring installed. Thanks for the help.

If it is the spiral spring thing to hold it in there is probably a groove in the steel for either a rubber lip or the wire to go into.

I use a dull pick or nail to get the bottom (first) part of the spring placed where it needs to be and then chase around the helix of the spring putting it into place (which is usually a groove in the rubber)
