How hard is it for one older person to install/remove the 108 lb box onto the TPH?
How hard is it to empty the box of sand and gravel weight?
Can the box be set onto the ground by the BX, and How high can the box be lifted off the ground ?
Is there a less expensive way to make a ballast weight for the Bx2370 other than the Landpride box sold by dealer?

Thanks

The difficulty installing or removing a ballast box would depend on the condition of the older person, I guess. I'm 75 and have no problem. The first time for me was the worst. My three point wouldn't go low enough to pick it up. I managed to work a couple chunks of 6 X 6 under it to get it high enough. I always set it back down on my improvised raised platform when I take it back off. I don't know if a BX can grab it from the ground or not, I have an L2510. Likewise I don't know how high your BX can lift it. I don't ever empty mine, though it does have a sliding door in the back for doing so. I just put three concrete blocks into it. They do the job. My box has two vertical tubes for carrying a shovel or rake and a two inch receiver below if I wish to tow something. Shop around, you are not restricted to Land Pride. I don't ever take the blocks out of mine and I can carry chains back there, too. Mine came UPS and I think shipping was free. I wish it was orange but for the price I'll live with red. https://www.palletforks.com/

I'm not much help with your questions, but certainly recommend a ballast box that's Quick Hitch compatible, and also getting a Quick Hitch.

I'm not sure why you want to empty it so my comments may not be apropos. I ordered an ebay special. iirc it was $240 and came from NJ in one day.
I made a frame that I dropped in it with a lifting lug and a couple of 1/2" threaded rods. The lifting lug came in handy - as another poster mentioned, I too had an issue hooking up because the lower pins were too low. Just lifted it with the lug and dropped it on a skid.

Then I filled it with concrete

I'll be 75 in a couple of weeks. Its no harder to hook up than any other 3 pt implenment.

Nothing worse than bumping ballast box and it falling over

I agree buying a QH is a good purchase assuming you spend enough time with it to learn how to use it, and buy real QH compatible implements.

I bought a cheapie ballast box on ebay. It’s still on my list to make QH compatible the pins are also very low to the ground. So, the Land Pride would have been used more, and I think it is larger. Also, I had to add QH compatible bushings to have a chance to make it work. The top pin doesn’t have enough height/depth to allow it to work.

What I’ve been doing is leaving my 72 inch grader/scraper on which is very heavy. The downside is it is quite a bit longer, but for sure provides excellent ballast otherwise.

Add some 6 or 8 in wood blocks fixed to the bottom of the box. Easier to lift and easier when you lower it to the ground to release from the Quick Hitch. Low cost.

option 'J'
Buy a cheap '3PH carryall'. They are lightweight and 'easy' to install on the 3PH.
Then backup to a 'ballast skid'. Skids are free( at least near me...) make a simple box foe the skid to hold 'weight'.
I have 2 'light' and 'heavy'. Light is used when loader's used to move mulch or compost, heavy when hauling rocks, conctrete, etc.
A3rd skid can be setup to haul 'gardening tools' or other items.

Having removable ballast on skids makes the jobs go a LOT easier.

Remember NONE of us are getting younger, the older we get !

Although the OP hasn't been seen in 3 years I thought this may be useful to others our age. I made a cheap dolly out of scrap lumber. It raises the box enough to be easily hooked up and allows me to push it around when storing (with great effort depending on how mush weight I have in it). Just make sure the wheels are rated for the weight you have, I'm on my second set having flattened the first set.

I got the box with the tractor and would NOT have if I realized it is not QH compatible. But I'm a semi-newbe and moderately uneducated to all things tractor. In the process of adding flat stock to move the lower pins forward so the QH will fit. Will likely have to fiddle with the top link also.

Since I break out the welder for just about any reason I can, I welded a frame around the bottom of mine and attached a sweet set of casters.

I then proceeded to set the worlds record for........'How fast can a guy break off a set of casters?"

I think I am still the reigning champion at 58.087 seconds.

The "up side" is that this that the base I welded up fits this dolly like a glove.

LOL - you got me beat by at least 3.1 seconds.
"Fits like a glove" means you MEANT to do it that way.
Did you weld the Quick Hitch top link bracket to your Land Pride Box? I think I'll have to do something like that to get the top to line up with the lower pins once I move them.

I looked quite a bit online for a ballast box for my BX 25/2360 machine.
Also, considerable time on Facebook Marketplace looking for nice condition, but used.
The cheap units are cheaply made. Lightweight steel, flimsy.
The well made, solid good quality units are expensive.
I didn't like either option.

I built mine at home myself. It's actually a ballast barrel, not a ballast box.
Now with an additional BX 2370 machine, it can be installed on either tractor.

This thread here: https://www.orangetractortalks.com/...of-recreational-hunting-property.39559/page-3

At the bottom of Post # 44 in the above thread with multiple photos.

It weighs ~ 450 pounds, sufficient for almost any loader work.
It can be picked up directly off the ground without any other theatrics other than "normal" 3-point hitch hookup stuff.
I do not use a "Quick Hitch" as that extends the ballast barrel further to the rear, and I was trying to keep it short and close to the tractor for getting close in when backing up for snow removal.
The backhoe on a BX 25 is also suitable rear weight, but extends multiple feet further to the rear, and is clumsy.

If I recall, I have less than $150 in total, but that doesn't factor in the concrete.
I got the barrel filled with free concrete.
If your location is actually Hancock, NY then you are close enough if you decide to make your own,
you are welcome to pull measurements from my barrel.

No, it came like that.

I bought it as a package with the tractor.

In hindsight, I would not have bought one at all, and just put that money towards my backhoe which stays on the vast majority of the time. (like ~99.989% of the time)

Although I did have fun modifying it, so theres some satisfaction/entertainment/fun factor to add into the equation.
