I purchased an MX5400 earlier this year with a BH92 Backhoe and Hyd. Thumb all factory installed. I have appx. 40 hrs on the tractor and just recently used the backhoe. I have 5 or 6 hours on the backhoe and a hose started leaking. I looked and the other hose in scarred badly ready for failure. My assumption is that the hose rubbed the side of the arm and scarred. Not sure why the leak unless it kinked. I am concerned that these should have a sheath around these hoses to protect from rubbing the frame. Any suggestions on this, past experience, etc.

I am sure others will weigh in but I think the main issue is the dipper stick hose routing. Not sure why they were installed with the hoses set off hard to the one side.

I pulled a quick picture off the internet that makes a lot more sense as to the routing. I would guess that in normal operation the hoses never contact the sides of the dipper stick or boom, which in your case is surely what caused the abrasion and failure. Ignore where the hand and finger is pointing, as I mentioned I just pulled this picture from the "net".

I have requested a sleeve. They don't want to include it since it wasn't included in the initial order. Not a problem, I told them to include it and charge me for it.

I see your point on the routing. It appears the lines may be too long or for whatever reason they are pulling out to the side and should not be. I haven't confirmed but there could be a sharp edge on the frame as well.

Thanks for the input.

To me, it looks like the line got twisted when it was tightened.

It doesn't help that they use the cheapest hose they can find.

They do look too long compared to the other picture. The least the dealer could do is fix it and put a sleeve on for your trouble. I’d re-visit a nd mention the thousands of followers you have on a Kubota Forum💪

I rigged this up 15 or so years ago…haven’t ever had any problems or issues. When I did it I figured I would snag a line, scuff one up or somehow screw up one of them. Nope…it gets used a lot too.
