Ref: B2150D 4x4 Manual Gearbox - V1200 Engine - Connecting Rod / Crankshaft Bearing Replacement.

Is it possible to replace the 4 connecting rod (big-end) bearings on the crankshaft (4 x con-rod bearings not the crank main bearings) without removing the engine?

It appears to be possible to remove the sump (oil pan) with the engine in place and get access to the bottom end.

If any one has any experience, information, knowledge or engine photos I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

It's pretty straight forward.
Pull the front Propeller shaft
Pull the pan
Pull the caps.

Do you have the WSM?

You can look at parts here:

Question is why?
If the bearings are bad you'll need to tear it down to fix it.

Thanks for your reply. I want to check the condition of the bearings and replace them if it is possible without removing the engine. My machine has 3000 hours and its early life maintenance is unknown. I have the WSM but I cannot view your link as I am outside of the US. I have a feeling that there is probably enough room to remove the caps and check but not replace the bearings as it is too restrictive with the engine in place….unless someone knows better?

Yes you can replace them, there is just enough room to do that.
BUT... with 3000 hours that engine is due for a complete overhaul.
