Any thoughts why tractor seems weak under load forwards but strong in reverse?
Same hill, same rpm but struggles in forward. It will still climb a steep hill forward but have to change the ratio down. Pretty sure clutch is ok but no expert? Front and rear hydraulics strong.

typically rear gear ratios are lower IN REVERSE than forward ,so more 'torque'.
changing gears for hills is no different than 'shifting down' in a car, again torque vs speed.

somehow lost 'in reverse'.......anyone got a left ring finger end I can have ?

Sound like you have an issue with the HST.
You'll need to dig into the WSM (aka service manual) and see how to test it.

Do you have a PTO powered Implement?
It would be a great way to verify it is the HST and not the Clutch causing the issues.
You would run the implement while working it forward and reverse on a grade or other ways of working it hard and if it slows or stops while movement slows or stops then it's a clutch issue.

Except in HST where reverse is just backwards of forward. All it does is change the angle of the swashplate which reverses the direction of the fluid flow. Your gear ratios don't change from Fwd to rev UNLESS the operator switches from low to medium to high range manually (separate shifter). The HST linkage is, however, designed to limit the speed in reverse but it doesn't change the ratio.

Could be a few things causing the issue. If you are heading uphill in forward, if you let off the pedal a little bit to match the speed you generally get in reverse, does that help?

I looked it up at tractordata and the speeds for forward are faster than reverse ! Even checked for my BX23S, same deal.
I know they 'should' be the same though, like LB says ,just reversing the flow but... I suspect the 'lever' doesn't go same distance back as forward ? It'd be interesting to know WHY this happens.

Getting Info off tractordata, it like getting info from a drunk guy at the bar, it might or might not be right. 😜

There is mutiple ways an HST can have different speed forward and backwards.
Sometimes it's done with the linkage sometimes it's the valveing.

Thanks I’ll try that
