Anyone ever added the optional DIFF LOCK to an L175?

There’s a diff lock kit for my l175 on eBay. And I know it was a factory option. But when I look at parts diagrams it’s usually not there.

Just wondering if the kit will have everything I need and if anyone has ever done it. Looks like the kit has some springs, bearings, the foot pedal, and fork.

Bought a differential lock kit for my L175 (was a factory option, mine doesnt have it). However the parts/service manuals are all vague regarding the l175 diff lock, and pictures and videos online of it. Does anyone have an L175 that would be willing topost some photos so I can get an idea of how I can get this project started?

Thanks, Mike

I looked for the differential on the L175 and it didn’t show any parts for the lock pedal.

I looked at the L185F which is similar and found the lock pedal under the differential section. I have a L185 so can take pictures of it later and post them.

Here is a picture from the bottom of the tractor that shows some of the pedal and linkage. The differential lock pedal is on the brake pedal side at the rear of the foot rest. That is the red line with yellow highlight. Then the linkage goes into the case that has the blue line.

I will take more pictures later today and post them

I looked at the kit on Fleabay and looks like it has everything I think you would need. The lever, spring, small parts, shift fork and sliding collar seem to be there as well as the gaskets. It looks very much like the arrangement in the L225 which I think is a better match than the L185. The L185 looks like a completely different animal

For 50 bucks what have you got to loose?

Here’s both sides of my l175 case. Totally different. Is yours a 175 Russell?

I don’t even see a plug on mine where it would go… and the manual, while vague, makes mention of the pedal/rod for the 175 being slightly different than other models. It also has about one paragraph where it explains how to remove it, so I might just take a look inside and see how things would line up. Odd that they would use completely different castings on the diff/case. Unless I’m completely confused here.

Russell has a L185 not an L175, they have different cases and different diff lock arrangements.

I will merge your 2 threads because as @ruger1980 pointed out, it's the same as the L225 setup.

Go look at post #12

Sorry that I confused you with pictures from my L185!

But I think I see where it goes on your tractor from looking at the L225 illustration. I think it would go into this area. See below for why I think that

This is the L225 (as posted above). I can’t find a differential lock illustrated on the L175. I highlighted the line showing where the pedal goes into the housing.
IMG_0271.jpeg
This is the L175 case showing the same “thing” in the case, right at the edge of the axle housing connection area.

saw that too, and also was unable to find it illustrated for the 175. BUT in the workshop manual it DOES say if your L175 is equipped, the first step to diff service is essentially removing the seat/case cover, then pulling out the diff lock assy… I may have to open it up and just see. Though I’d have to drill the case… hmm
