Adding Quick couplers for FEL attachments.

Getting ready to convert pin on FEL 4n1 bucket (Wr Long on B21), which has "hard wired" lines from the solenoid valve to the 4n1 jaw cylinders to SSQA.

Obviously, the thing to do is add QC couplers, And replace the well abused original hoses. I bought it that way, in case you wonder. I see the WR long kits come with QC couplers, but maybe they did not "back then".

Looking for examples of how others have mounted the QC couplers so I can have lots of options to befuddle my aging brain. Further.

Just want to try and avoid excessive down time and scrounging up of parts, etc.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for as I used the existing quick coupler on my BX when I added a JD 4 way blade I had to the tractor. Works flawlessly. Bought the top part of the quick coupler. Kind of costly but happy with the result. Had the hoses made at a local shop.

Kind of. Where the QC's mount to the adapter. "Bulkhead" sort of thing.

Now, I like that idea on the hoses, and the QC, as I have that for my snowblower. Nice if I could use the QC for some other implement. The best thing is it frees up two hyd lines for other functions.

Here is how I plumbed my third function outlets. The high end 1/2" couplers are overkill but they work extremely well and IMO are worth the added cost.

Did you buy this setup, or did you piece it together? I'm looking for the same for my Bx23s and the dealer is going to install the third function kit before I take delivery.
Pieced together.

  1. The couplers are Faster 4SRHF
  2. The mountimg block is a DPOCV lock valve from Summit
  3. The aluminum spacer is just bar stock that I drilled
  4. I formed and flared the hardlines.

The lines are ordinary 1/2" x .049 wall steel hydraulic tube purchased at the local hydraulic supply. The ends are 37* JIC flares with tube nuts and sleeves.

Two fold - it makes a very convenient coupler mounting block and it prevents pressure bleed off when the grapple is being used to clamp an object.

What tool did you use for flares> The Ridgid and some others claim up to 0.035 tubing.

Ridgid 377 - easily handles 1/2" x .049 wall carbon steel tube. Never tried but I would expect it to work on .065. Stainless may be a bit more problematic both flaring and bending.

From what I read, .049 is good for 1900 psi, which is marginal for the B21 which can be just under 2100. I guess that is close enough though?

But I wonder about "carbon steel" vs stainless. Are the factory lines stainless or plain? Never seem to corrode, so figured they must be stainless, but never really looked into it.

Is corrosion a concern with the steel you used?\

Pressure rating is dependent on tube diameter and wall thickness. 1/2" x .049 C1010 seamless carbon steel (SAE J524) hydraulic tubing is rated at 2700 PSI working pressure with a 4:1 safety factor. More than adequate on your tractor. .065 wall would be rated at 3650 PSI and massive overkill.

I dont thinK OEM tubing is stainless but it may well be anodized. Quite sure the 40 year old tubing on my B7200 is just plain steel and its still solid as a rock after years of sitting outside. Paint is also cheap and easy to apply.

Have your dealer install the LandPride 3rd function valve instead of the Kubota valve that isn't a true 3rd function valve, but a diverter valve. In my opinion the LandPride unit is a much cleaner installation, and it works better than the Kubota on the BX23S.

Just curious on how you do the tubing layout work.

do you bend wire (armature wire?) into the approximate shape and then form the tubing? Or do you go directly to tube bending (eyeballing the fit)?

The lines in that picture were simple anf bent in stages eye ballimg the angles as I worked front to back. I botched (over bent) the first one and used it as a reference for the next two.
