I have an L2550 tractor and today I had to charge the battery and
boost it off to get it to start because it had been setting for a while. It started up with no problem, but I didn't immediately take the charger away from the thing and now it will not crank over, the lights on the dash will not glow when the key is turned back to warm the glow plugs, nor will it make a single sound. I think it is probably some kind of an inline fuse blown, but I have no idea where it would be located. I checked the fuses in the box under the hood and all were in good shape according to my visual inspection and to be sure I used my trusty Fluke multimeter. I have plenty of voltage in my battery now and have checked my voltage at my starter to insure that there is the same voltage at the connection to the battery main cable as what the battery is putting out. The ground is secure as well, but I have nothing in the way of power showing at the switch. Even if it was a safety switch such as the clutch switch, the lights on the dash should still illuminate, but they do not. Is there an inline fuse somewhere in the system I am missing because I cannot locate it on the schematic nor with a visual inspection of the tractor with my limited knowledge. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Where the battery cable connects to the starter, there is also a 12-gauge wire that is on the same lug. Follow that wire from the starter forward. You should find a fuseable link in the wire, which is the fuse. Check for voltage on each side of it.

Thanks for that tip. I will not be able to check it till the AM, but I will certainly do that and let you know of the results. Again, thank you.

Well, I got a chance to check that out. I unplugged it and it had 12 V coming into the connector, and I checked the fuse block part and it had continuity. I cleaned the acquired dust from everything with some contact cleaner, but it didn't help. I suppose the next stop will be at the key switch, but I was hoping there might be something a little easier to trouble shoot than that. I was an industrial electrician for over 30 years and worked on control panels for a living. I have had enough of that stuff in my lifetime to do me. Now I am 71 and just the thoughts of tearing the dash out of that tractor makes me cringe. Note the name "Caneman". I have had 5 back surgeries and have 4 rods and 12 screws in my back and really just ain't up to it anymore.
