I need to replace the bearing and seal for the front end of my L2850's 4X4 shaft. I've removed the protective shaft sleeve, the long middle shaft section, and the two shaft couplings from rear to front. I'm trying to remove the housing that bolts to the rear of the front axle that contains the seal and bearing. I've unbolted it (8 bolts and two nuts on alignment studs)from the front axle 'pumpkin' and I'm able to pry it away about 1/2" before it binds up. There's a short shaft section in this housing; splines on the outside, pinion on the inside where it meshes with the ring gears on the shafts going to the left and right front wheels. Do I need to remove the outer gear housings and shafts going to the wheels to release tension on the pinion?

I order to get that cover and differential out you would need to remove both axles first.
You will need to pull the 2 ends of the axle cases off then pull the axles and then the cover and differential will come out.
