We bought some land that adjoins ours last Winter. Finally had a chance to start work on it last week. I began cutting off the low tree limbs and removing brush along the creek. There are a lot of saplings up to about 2" or so in diameter that need removed. Scraping with the buckket worked OK with the smallest ones. I didn't want to cut them and leave stubs sticking up so it looked like pullling them out was the answer.
On the way home this evening I stopped at a hardware store and picked up some pieces of chain, a safety hook and a repair link The 1/4" chain is rated at 800# and the 3/8" at 1340#. I would have liked a higher rating on the small chain but thought the smaller links would work better.
The small chain is in a loop that I wrapped around the saplings and took the end of the chain through the loop to form a sort of slip noose. The slip hook garbs the looped end and thr plain end is dropped in a slot on my homebrew "bucket hooks".
At little more than an idle I kept lift pressure applied while slowly moving the Kubota forward and backward about a foot or so. The saplings pulled out without much of a struggle. The chain loop wanted to slip on some, so I re-wrapped the noose to take advantage of nubs on those.
