 I'm in a situation that I hope I can get some advice on.

Last Friday I decided to change the oil in my B1550 HST diesel engine. As I was planning to put the new oil in, I realized that I didn't have any of the D10W-30 oil that I usually use. I thought I could buy some today.

However, we had a large snowstorm overnight (large for NC, 7 inches). I have a drive that is almost 1/2 mile long so I use the tractor to plow out the drive, that is if the tractor was working. I can't get the car out to go get more oil since I need to plow first, but I can't plow since I don't have the oil.

Question: Can I use gasoline oil (SAE10W-30) for a day, and then change the oil after I am able to get out and get diesel oil tomorrow?

Any advice and views appreciated.

Re: Emergency oil for diesel (update)

Thanks for the information. I put in the SAE gasoline oil, scraped the drive, and was able to get out this morning to get some diesel grade oil. I was surprised to find that one of the synthetics was not only graded for diesel but was cheaper than the petroleum oils! I'm going to try it and keep an eye on it to see if it works OK.

Thanks for the advice.
