I have a 1975 Kubota L 1505 DT tractor and I want to change trans/diff oil. Manual calls for 80W and the Kubota service mechanics say I should use UDT hydraulic oil . It seems to me that the UDT hydraulic oil would be too thin for all the straight cut gears in the tranny. Anybody know what's right?
Thanks
Dave

For your tractor, there are much cheaper alternatives then udt that you can use with out issue. The manual calls for 80w, but that was what was available back in the 70's. Mystic jt5 is a cheaper alternative then kubota udt with the same qualities. I use napa brand universal tractor hydraulic fluid in my l1501. Costs around $35 for a 5 gallon pail. I've also used some generic universal hydraulic fluid from the local hardware store as well with out issue. :)

Anything tgh. Trans Gear Hydraulic. Can use tgh in hydraulic system, but cannot use hydraulic oil in a gear transmission.

Ummmm.... Yes you can, there really is not a whole lot of difference, and most manuals will tell you to use Hydraulic fluid. ;)

I wouldn't use UDT... too expensive for that tractor, just use universal hydraulic fluid.

Yes,they both have anti-wear properties, but the gear type fluid is blended with anti-foam additives to prevent aeration of the fluid.
