Block heater tip!

Here's a quick tip that might save someone some problems.
If you are parking outside and have a block heater make sure the cord is not hanging down!!
I went out to plug in my block heater today so I could clean my driveway. I popped off the cap on the 3 prong plug and the whole inside was a block of solid ice!! :eek:
The cord was hanging down so some snow had melted and ran down the wire into the cap. Fortunately it was warm enough that I could get it started without the heater. Now I have the cord arranged so that the plug cap is UP!!

Installing a weatherproof 'shore power' style receptacle would resolve this as well. They are common in marine/rv/trucker applications and they don't let the water in.

Yeah, it would. I have one of those on my daughter's van. Not sure that I need something that elaborate on my tractor though. I guess I will find out.
