Re: ISO D1302 engine for L275

(Considerations in rebuild of my)..... D1302 for my L275. Mine ate a piston for dinner and didn't pay the bill. Everything still looks good except needs piston and sleeve ect. Question is has anyone changed sleeves in a D1302 to D1402 they use same rods and crank from what I have read. I could always use a few more HP and since I will be in there anyway I plan on rebuilding but would rather it be a D1402. Any help would be great.

MODERATOR NOTE: above info copied "in part" from classifieds... ... Folk in the future you will find much greater success to put questions NOT in the classifieds. Won't get much help there.

If you have thoughts about his idea of using 1402 sleeves and pistons respond here.

you might find the rebuild kits for the 1302 have oversized options on sleeves and pistons... this will end up giving you more HP anyway.

You cannot just resleeve any kubota block to make it larger, the block is actually made differently between models of engines.

Also even if you do oversize the pistons your not going to gain the HP because in order to do that you would have to change the injectors , and possibly the fuel cam and injection pump to match. :(

Now you've got to be careful as there is different D1302's, and D1402's

There is:
D1302-A which you have, it is the oldest design and different than newer designs.
D1302-DIA which newer tractors had (will not cross)
D1402 (newer design than the D1302-A) which never was used in a tractor, only other uses like other brand skid steers, (It might not cross at all, or will be missing needed components, like Hydraulic drive, or proper orientation of oil filter, or water components, or many different things.)
D1402-DIA which was used in newer tractors (will not cross)

There are also different rebuild kits and parts for each and all the parts will not cross between them.
Different sleeves, pistons, and gaskets just to name a few.

So in closing a D1302-A is really not like any other engine, so rebuild it back to a D1302-A and if there is not enough HP sell it and get a bigger tractor.

Also many do not know, when you resleeve these motors, you will have to have the block bored to the proper size after install of the sleeves.
as the sleeves are only semi finished, so install them all and have them all match bored.

Yep I'm a buzz kill!

Oversized pistons would give you about 1/10 of a HP increase per cylinder is it does at all. ;)
