Dear Friends,

Any idea how much to replace a head gasket on a 1979 B7100D D750-A?

I noticed several droplets of anti freeze sweating around the head bolt. The engine got hot around 260 degrees fahrenheit before I discovered the anti freeze mix was to strong and lose fan belt. After that I noticed the appearance of the anti freeze droplets. At idle the temperature will climb to 195-200 degrees fahrenheit.

Respectfully,

Mike from Cleveland

When you say "replace the head gasket" .....is that you buying and doing or having a professional doing it?

Looking at Messicks.....a gasket it right around $75 without shipping. There is also a "shim" that is another $15.

I don't think the shim is required unless you have the head milled because it's not flat. Probably not a problem. The shim takes up the difference from the material cut off.

I'm going to give you news your not going to want to hear.
It's very unlikely that you just damaged the head gasket alone on the overheat, these engines are known to crack the head when they get overheated.

Pull the head and take it to a head shop to have it magnafluxed, the cracks will show up in the space from the valves to the prechamber.

Did you correct the anti-freeze mix and fan belt tension? If so does it now run at normal temps? If so, id monitor the situation for a while. You might not need to do anything.
