How to limit fluid loss during BX23S hydraulic filter change

Fantastic! As I said previously, this is getting better and better, and you just made it better.

Perfect. I know how to move quickly!

How to limit fluid loss during BX23S hydraulic filter change

This is getting better and better! I think I'll tilt the tractor and just work quickly. I can't remember if you can even change the filter with OEM guard plate installed, but I have a detachable after-market guard, so I'll have good access.

How to limit fluid loss during BX23S hydraulic filter change

Thanks, this is helpful. I hadn't planned on completely changing out the fluid ... I replaced it at 50 hours, and the book doesn't call for changing at 200 hours. But at a minimum I will plan on buying some more UDT2 when I get the filter so I can replace what's lost.

How to limit fluid loss during BX23S hydraulic filter change

Thanks! For some dumb-ass reason, I was thinking you had to put the vacuum over the screen filter opening ... I forgot about the fill opening. That seems quite straight-forward.

How to limit fluid loss during BX23S hydraulic filter change

Hi folks ... my BX23S just went past 200 hours, so it's time to change the hydraulic filter. I'm wondering how much fluid loss I should expect and what I can do to limit it. I have a small quantity of UDT2 on hand. Someone mentioned parking the tractor on an incline ... that seems easy ... I...

Fixing hole in side of block

@joesmith123 Hey just curious ... what do you plan to do with the tractor once you're finished putting it all back together? Are you going to use it yourself, or sell it ... donate it to a community farming project?

I bought a bunch of stuff from them a couple of years ago. I had no problems.

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

Yes, up until now I was talking about on-the-tractor. I install the safety pins when the back hoe is on the tractor. But when I take the backhoe off...I'm still figuring out how to store it...oh face palm...if I put the safety pins in then the boom drift won't happen...I'll have to see if I can...

Fixing hole in side of block

I'm responding to this post mostly to bring attention to it. I've also been concerned that you might not be giving the mating surfaces on the block and head enough care. Shiny is nice but shiny is not necessarily flat. This is even more important on a diesel because it's a high compression...

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

Good to know ... I'll update my mental image of what the inside of the spool valve looks like! beginning mental image update procedure .... deleting o-ring ... deletion sequence completed .... saving mental image ... mental image update complete

Fixing hole in side of block

@joesmith123 Glad you wore glasses during the valve removal. That's quite an ingenious setup you used to compress the valve springs. I don't know if it's frowned upon, but there's also a technique there you put a socket down on the valve and give it a hit with a mallet. Sometimes that will cause...

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

Dan -- this is really helpful ... I actually didn't know that spool valves always leak. That explains a lot.

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

I do install the storage pins when I park the tractor overnight and lower the FEL and set the parking brake. I'm still figuring out how to position the boom and dipper when the backhoe is off the tractor.

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

LOL, the question so far has been purely hypothetical. This would be the point in the process where actual evidence needs to be obtained. That may not happen for quite a while due to other distractions. Having said that, my next step would be to figure out what caps and plugs I need to get...

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

Yes, on the BX23S, the cylinder extends to make the boom go down. So yes, this is how it would work if the valve is leaking. If the cylinder is leaking then the fluid just goes past the seal in the cylinder and directly into the base end.

    I like it. Thanks!

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

I just came back to edit my last response but you beat me to it. When the main boom is dropping, the cylinder is extending, so fluid is being displaced from the rod end. So if the valve is leaking then the most obvious explanation is that the displaced rod-end fluid is leaking through the...

    Backhoe bleed down (BX23S)

It's about time you showed up. I have been waiting for you. ;) I have not forgotten our previous discussions on the topic of internal leakage. I will restate the crux of my original question: IF there is spool leakage in the valve, and GIVEN that I had disconnected the hydraulic lines...
