Well, if you are in a deer area the fence around it is a very good start. My neighbor has a nice apple tree. His dogs eat the low hanging ones, and the deer clear out the higher ones. Cracks me up every year.😜😂

Have blossoms as well on some apple and wild pear trees this year. Last year nothing. Even the common walnut trees were bare. Too bad you can't eat black walnuts as we still had lots of them.

You can eat them but if its all you have you'll probably starve to death before you can crack enough to eat.

We are hoping for apples and cherries, they already bloomed.
We had to upgrade the fence, they reached over the fence rings last year and ate all the apples!!
The deer here are brutal!

I had to build a 8.5’ fence around my garden an orchard to keep the deer out.

From the standpoint of material and labor, it's easier and effective to install a hot wire 3-4' from net fence than going higher than deer can jump.

We hopefully get some apples too. Plenty of blossom, even on the newly planted trees that a friend grafted himself. Pruning surely helps a lot

p.s.: no deer here, only rabbits and hares which are kept away by two feet high chicken wire.

I considered putting in a nice garden but figured that by the time I built fencing to keep out the bountiful deer population that I would be 125 years old by the time I broke even with the cost of everything.

Rosemary doesn’t overwinter in the location where to OP lives.

Ok then, Plan B. These overwinter very well and do an excellent job keeping he deer out too. They are usually free or really cheep on craigslist.
