I'd like get the front axle out and see if I can get it tightened up so steering isn't so loosey goosey. I have the WSM but, it's not a very informative publication. Anyone ever pulled the G2160 axle? Did you document and or photograph it at all?
Any tips? Are there bushings that wear out on there? Seems the grease fitting in there does not lube up the axle but the pto shaft.
Any help appreciated

No the grease zerk lubes the front axle, the PTO shaft goes through the support in sealed bearings.

So, if I can get that axle down (out) somehow, seems like it would be good idea to replace those sealed bearings as well?

You can if you want.
Your in there, and if it has a lot of hours on it might not be a bad Idea.

It just hit 1000 hours last summer. Thing is I have to figure out how to get the axle out. The FSM is no help. So while I am a pretty good wrench, I do like to have some backup procedures rather than simply "winging" it

Lift front just off the ground and support frame
Remove the belts
Remove the 4 bolts (green)
Remove pulley
Remove the 4 bolts (yellow)
Lightly block up the tires and remove the axle support and PTO shaft, the coupling collar on the PTO shaft will either come off or stick to one side of the shaft or the other.
If the shaft is too long to remove it and the axle support at the same time you will have to remove snap ring #90 and remove the shaft ( you can and the bearing then the axle support.

I was partially wrong, the grease zerk does both the axle pivot and the PTO bearings.
The front bearing is one side sealed and the back bearing has a seal behind it.

Sorry to hear about your dad, and best of thoughts on your situation.
Both my step dad and my FIL got diagnosed with prostate cancer.
They both are doing really well many years later.
Deal with it fast and your chances of getting past it improve greatly!
