If I had a hard parts failure on a BX 60" deck gearbox, I would rebuild in myself, and if it was torn up real badly, I likely would replace it with a known good used deck gearbox. Simply due to cost. I'm pretty sure due to the "teeth count" on the internal bevel gears, the 60" deck gearbox is specific to the 60" deck. Meaning that a 54" deck gearbox might actually fit and bolt into place, but the blades would rotate at incorrect speed.
