Drum mower experiences and possible hacks..

The only "yaw" is the breakaway for if you hit something. Roll, yes, my design allows it to roll if needed. You would control pitch with the 3 point top link.

I looked up what you've got. It certainly looks a lot different than the European style drum mower. Of course, their goal was to build it cheap. I don't see how your model can ride the contours of the terrain, it looks very rigid. Probably works on flat ground, but hills, I'd hate to try to run...

the majority of the weight should be running on the drums, if I remember correctly, and that’s how I had mine set up to run

They’re tricky to get set up properly, in terms of being level. I’m not sure what adjustments your particular model has, but for me I watched the following video, and it does a good job describing how to get it how you want it.

sorry to hear that, I responded in your other thread about your drum mower

No idea in the gearbox. If it’s too bumpy, does slowing down while mowing seem to help? My fields aren’t perfectly smooth, but the sections that are worse in terms of bumps, I found slowing down helps a lot. you can put a lift kit on a drum mower, but the bottom of the drum still has to ride on...

    Drum mower experience?

There's a lot more mechanical parts in a disc mower versus a drum mower. Not that it makes it bad, but for a smaller, sub 50HP tractor, I'd find it hard to beat a drum mower. I was able to mow thick, probably 28-32 inch tall grass, with my L4802HST in medium range, with the pedal to the floor...

    Drum mower experience?

Just to circle back around to this, I cut hay last weekend with my L4802 and the FDM-165 drum mower. It works great, gives a nice clean cut. Very happy I went with this option.

    Drum mower experience?

Good to know. It got delivered already, just haven't had the time to put it together and check it out. It seems very well packaged on the pallet it shipped on.

I pulled the trigger on a Farm Maxx FDM165, we will see how it does as well.

I like the idea of the power being transferred out the arm on belts, as opposed to a shaft. Mostly because, should you hit something (which hopefully you don't) hard, that stops the spinning, the belts should, in theory, slip, and not send that shock all the way up the driveline. That's one of...

    Drum mower experience?

I've got a Titan Attachments flail. It runs ok, it's nothing special, but I've had it for years. I don't particularly like their drum mower design, as it appears to use a gearbox at the back of the hitch, to turn the power down a shaft to the mower. All the other designs seem to use belts to run...

Never seen hay cut with a bush hog. Not sure how it would work, the idea with hay is a single cut, not mulched.

    Drum mower experience?

I'm not opposed to a sickle mower, but the problem is, most of the ones you see, especially used, are beat to death. And then if you price a new sickle mower, most of the drum mowers are cheaper. And obviously, even a used disc mower is way more money. Have you been baling with the 3901? What...

    Drum mower experience?

New here, just picked up an L4802HST to use around my property. I've got about 5 acres of hay fields, that traditionally we've had the neighbors bale in some form, either squares or round bales. Thinking about doing it myself, and wondered about picking up a small drum mower to run on my L4802...
