how deep is the water?
deep enough the ducks are loving it 🤣. I’ve had a couple times I’ve been able to work the ground but then it rains. Which is typically normal over the winter here ,but I usually have stuff in the ground in March or April at the latest.

Might be time to start thinking about rice or a floating garden.

I’m regretting starting this thread now 🤣

we did miss the storms last night, so I am hoping we might get dried up enough to get a lot of stuff in the ground, I will have some extra helpers this weekend too 😂 my parents coming down for the weekend

Garlic is coming along…saw first scapes just starting this afternoon. 🥃
Nice!

I used to use the scapes on the grill like you’d use wood chips in a smoker.

Gave a half-turkey or turkey breast some great flavor.

That sounds great. We usually either make a pesto or pickle them.

Hoping you can do some gardening with out the row boat if it does dry out , I think you may be surprised how quickly it will catch up if soil is correct temperature. I am always surprised in very little difference from our early starts of a type of veggie to the late starts…seems like there is rarely more than 2-3 weeks difference from the ready to harvest timing regardless. Good luck.

Speaking of chickens…we get jumbos once a week or so…but this our record holder. I’ll bet that one hurt…no wonder she squawks when come out of the coop. So I’ll drink to her today!

N.Y,
I'm just getting the plants out. Warm weather is letting me get started early this year.

It’s still very early but I finally see some fruit in the trees I plant back 2018/2019!

I mulched and tilled in the winter rye (cache). Planted a few potato’s finally and a few sweet potato’s (on the left with the little start popping up) started from slips cut from last years plants. I’ll starting hilling the potatoes as they come up. 🥃

We have most of the country(kitchen) garden in from this weekend. (Seedlings from greenhouse: Tomatoes, peppers, winter squash, pumpkins, assorted melons, etc)

We started pulling scapes today….hopefully balance of them by the weekend. The fridge in the garage smells awesome…no vampires in there! We should be able to pull the bulbs in about 3 weeks.

It was warm enough today I did not feel like carrying the straw up the hill from the lower barn, so the B helped us with the mulching. Everything covered in straw now. I did find evidence of a trespasser. And it sure likes it is almost time for pie. 🥃

Did some weed control last night. Almost waited too long, lots of grass in places.

And the kiddo wanted a picture in the green beans.

We checked out the fruit trees up north this morning then we played in the dirt. Finally have a pear, a few peaches and sure looks like maybe some persimmons. (Still no crab apples or paw paws…maybe next year?)
