My wifes' "little sister" from Big Brothers/Big Sisters wanted to take a spin on some equipment. I obliged of course. She did great with a bit of coaching.

The mini was her favorite...

I think we may have found another 'helper".

She did a nice job of getting a bucket full of dirt! She now thinks your place is more fun then going to the zoo, or any other place. She's hooked for life!!

Bi-weekly tree watering. 1/8" of rain with two days of drizzle didn't do much.

Got bored yesterday and decided to roll and sort one my big compost/deadfall heaps (again) yesterday. Started by greasing the FEL, grapple and top link. Smeared a bit on all the ball joints of the 3P members. Checked oils and topped off with diesel. Checked tire pressure. 20 in the front, 18 in the back. Even with rolling tires so the valve stems were at the top, I still got some ballast squirted into my tire gauge. Those puppies are FULL. Also found the hose for my 3FV was chafing on the right lift arm when fully raised, so I loosened the banjo bolt and corrected that problem. Tightened everything up and checked for leaks and went grappling. Picked up some brush from the last storm and piled it with other stuff for chipper food. Pulled out a half dozen pieces of punky logs and put them in the other pile. Hoping to get a bit of decent top soil to use in the grassy part of my yard. I made a little trommel to strap to my cement mixer about a month ago and it should work nicely for sorting out the chunky bits. I told the missus that a new dump trailer is in our future. She agreed it was needed. Can’t get better than that.

I might give the LX a bath when I get back from vacation because I’m probably gonna have to have rotator cuff surgery a 3rd time on my right shoulder and the tractor will be sitting in the shed until I heal up enough to get back on it. Since it’s my right arm I can’t do much with the tractor for at least 8 months.😠. 10 months minimum for rotator cuff recovery. Been there done that and didn’t get a tee shirt, twice on the right, once on the left. I guess I need to tell my 26 year old brain that my 66 year old body can’t do that stuff anymore. I just hate paying someone to do anything I know how to do. I’m not afraid of hard work, but all the joint injuries are telling me something has to change.

Mowed the lawn for the first time with the BX yesterday. I learned that unlike my previous riding mower, the movements of the BX trigger my step counter on my watch. I got a great workout mowing apparently!!
That's one of the reasons that I moved up to bigger tractors. I used to cut a few acres with the BX but it was a ball buster for sure!! 😂

I drove over to a beautiful spot this morning to take a look at an area that a homeowner wants me to disc. He's having the area hydroseeded a week from tomorrow and wants the ground in better shape than it is currently. Given the terrain and tightness of the area in which I'll be working I plan on using the MX. It figures since I got the M all set up to tow the disc and now I'll need to get the MX set up with a pintle hook adapter.

To be honest, I don't know how well the MX will handle the disc. It's a bit of a beast but hopefully the MX can pull it with the gangs at the maximum angle of attack.

I don't know how long it'll take to make him happy but a couple of hours should do it.

Here's the disc behind the M6060.

Well, I did done it:

IMG_5954.JPG

The last bucket load of rounds are about ready to take a trip to the wood pile. My hand tongs and Logrite Hookaroon sneaked into the picture.

IMG_5956.JPG

Everything here will have to be split and/or wheelbarrowed to the woodshed for stacking. Lotsa work for da old man, but I'll git-r-done.

As a saw guy I would mention it pays to minimize handling, your body will thank you.
I should have mentioned that my Stihl MS261 has to be the handiest chainsaw that I have ever owned.
I have an MS362 for the larger stuff, but this saw is fast had seemingly bullet proof.

I am also enjoying using that new 1 1/4 gallon NO-SPILL gas can. It has a "sight glass" on each end which helps with mixing. Pressing the green button releases internal pressure plus releasing it instantly stops the flow and prevents overfills.

Today I finished cleaning up an old back blade I picked up for $400. I’m fairly sure the thing is as old as I am (from the 80s) and was in fine shape really besides the surface rust, so this was probably not necessary. But it does look better and this will hopefully prolong its life.

When taking the “Rhino” sticker off, I found a “Rhino by Servis” sticker underneath. I guess it was made right around the time of a corporate change.

I cleaned off the rust first with a stripping pad thing on the angle grinder, which wore down way too quickly so I switched to wire brush attachment. Then I used some rust spray stuff (Rust/oleum brand spray gel, it worked okay). Then Rust-oleum farm implement enamel spray paint. Which so far seems not all that durable to me (I’ve already scraped some off, oh well).

We headed North and I mowed our new pasture for the second time…shave a little time off the record….i got a little smarter with the pattern.

Then we tip toed thru the woods and went back to the river. (Found an old disc) Moved a couple downed trees along the way.

Too many leaves on to get a good pic of the river. Then I found my tape measure that I lost I don’t know when out by the ditch. I know it is mine because it has my name on it 😉. (Actually it really is and really has my initials on the back side)
